Hello to my lovely memory hole subscribers!
This is a quick interruption to tell you that alongside the normal TV/ Film related content on this Substack, I will be documenting my current writing project Unnatural Women: Finding Alice Guy.
This is a graphic novel that I’ve been wanting to do for over a decade now, and finally have some lovely funding from Creative Scotland to do it. So I’ve teamed up with artist Mitch Miller (nepo-husband, is that a phrase?) as well as the brilliant Kyla Tomlinson to bring the art to the words.
It’s on brand for the Memory Hole- don’t worry! Because it’s all about the filmmaker Alice Guy, who was an actual, brilliant, creative woman, who was forgotten and written out of history. My story is a fictional tale of her characters going in search of her, and having to battle their way to the land of the forgotten ruled by the masked Violet Domino (herself a Scottish filmmaker from the 1920s).
I haven’t automatically signed you up to the Unnatural Women posts (as I believe in free will!) but if you’re interested in following our progress then you can read the first post by clicking link below and signing up for emails (all free).
I’m writing this as we speak/ write, so you’ll get a sense of the chapter coming together in real time, which is to say- slowly!
Thanks for reading and supporting!
Introducing Alice
Announcing an exciting new project with myself as writer and artists Mitch Miller and Kyla Tomlinson. Have you heard of Alice Guy Blache? Martin Scorsese called her a filmmaker of ‘rare sensitivity, with a remarkable poetic eye.’ But I’m skipping ahead of myself here.
