Hi there, if like me you’ve absorbed a lot of weird TV and film over the years, and still see images of it projected onto the back of your eyelids when you close your eyes at night, then maybe it’s time we talk about it? Are we mentally healthy? I grew up in the 80s/90s when kids’ TV could be dark and boundary pushing and prime time was a world of insanity featuring mostly posh people. Let’s walk into the memory hole together so we can parse the nightmare fuel from the unintentionally bad, or occasionally wonderful stuff!
What’s in the memory hole?
This is a space for telly addicts- (remember that show?) and other people who enjoy dipping their toe in the past without going through all that time machine inventing malarkey. I could be watching a spectacular episode of Colombo, a time traveling sundial story with ghost children that was supposed to be FOR children from the BBC, a Czech animation about a murderous bird (I’ve still to track down) that was once shown on C4 but lives rent free in my mind, prematurely cancelled American shows (Eerie Indiana, American Gothic, Carnivale…) or episodes of Bergerac that were weirdly terrifying. I’ll also dive into movies that only make sense at midnight.
I write from a feminist, humanist, and hopefully humorous perspective. As a screenwriter who knows how hard it is to get any story out of your brain box onto a screen I love everything that leaves an impact, and I will lovingly dissect it like a juicy frog by structure, character and dialogue.
